SMS & communications
SMS wallet, templates, automations, and send logs.
StokUp sends transactional and marketing SMS through Hubtel (or your configured provider). Keep customers informed about orders, receipts, and promotions — all from the Communications hub with delivery logs and wallet balance tracking.
Initial setup
- 1Open Settings → SMS — enter Hubtel API credentials or use platform defaults if enabled.
- 2Request or configure an approved sender ID (your business name on the SMS).
- 3Top up your SMS wallet from Communications or SMS settings.
- 4Create message templates with placeholders like {customer_name} and {order_total}.
- 5Enable automations for events: order confirmed, out for delivery, delivered.

Sending messages
- One-off SMS — pick a customer or enter a phone number manually
- Bulk SMS — filter by segment (all customers, recent buyers, etc.)
- Automations — fire on order status changes without manual action
- POS receipt SMS — optional send after checkout when customer has phone on file
Wallet & billing
Each SMS deducts units from your wallet based on message length and destination. Low balance triggers a warning in the dashboard. Top up before running large campaigns to avoid failed sends.
Delivery logs
Communications → Logs shows sent, delivered, and failed messages with timestamps. Use logs to verify automations are firing and troubleshoot invalid phone numbers.
SMS to invalid or landline numbers fail silently in some cases — always validate phone format (+country code) when importing customers.
Keep transactional templates under 160 characters when possible — single-segment messages cost one unit instead of two.
