Mobile barcode scanner
Pair a phone to the POS register for wireless scanning.
StokUp Mobile Scanner turns any smartphone camera into a wireless barcode reader connected to your active POS session. Cashiers can scan from the counter while the register stays on the main screen — ideal for high-volume checkout or bulky items.
When to use mobile scanner
- Counter has a fixed POS terminal but no dedicated USB scanner
- Staff need to scan items on the shelf without walking back to the register
- Pop-up markets or temporary setups where a phone is easier than hardware
- Backup when your wired scanner is unavailable
Pairing workflow
- 1On the POS register, tap Mobile Scanner in the toolbar — a modal opens with a QR code and connect URL.
- 2On the staff phone, scan the QR code or open the URL in Chrome or Safari.
- 3Grant camera permission when prompted — StokUp only uses the camera for barcode detection.
- 4The phone shows a connected status; scan product barcodes to add matching SKUs to the active cart.
- 5Each successful scan plays a short confirmation; unknown barcodes show a not-found message on both devices.
Supported barcodes
| Format | Notes |
|---|---|
| EAN-13 / UPC | Most retail product labels |
| Code 128 | Internal labels and shipping codes |
| QR (product SKU) | Works when SKU is encoded as QR on custom labels |
Troubleshooting
- Product not found — verify the barcode exists on the product record in Products → Edit.
- Connection drops — refresh the scanner page; re-open the modal on POS for a new QR.
- Slow scans — ensure adequate lighting and hold the phone steady for half a second.
Pin the scanner page to the phone home screen so staff can reconnect in one tap at the start of each shift.
Only one phone should be paired to a register session at a time. Pairing a second device replaces the first connection.
Scan events are logged for audit. Managers can review recent scans from the POS scanner modal.
